LOLER

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998

LOLER places duties on people and companies who own, operate, or have control over lifting equipment. The Regulations apply to all lifting equipment used at work, including cranes, hoists, lifts, and lifting accessories.

  • All lifting operations must be properly planned by a competent person
  • Lifting operations must be appropriately supervised
  • Lifting equipment must be used in a safe manner
  • Lifting equipment must be thoroughly examined at specified intervals
  • Reports of thorough examinations must be kept and acted upon
  • Defective equipment must be taken out of service immediately
